Pharmaceutical industry calls on G7 to prioritize innovation as strategic pillar for health, growth, and security

  13 June 2025

The global pharmaceutical industry, represented by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) and Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC), is urging G7 governments to prioritize health and innovation at the upcoming summit. The industry’s open letter calls for discussions on three critical areas: investing in healthcare as a strategic priority, strengthening global health security, and harnessing the pharmaceutical industry as a catalyst for economic growth and resilience. The G7 can lead in promoting innovation, particularly in tackling non-communicable diseases (NCDs), addressing antimicrobial resistance, and reinforcing health systems. The industry contributes $2.3 trillion to global GDP in 2022 and supports nearly 75 million jobs worldwide. The G7 Health Ministerial in 2025 is expected to drive commitments and sustain momentum on key global health initiatives.
